The politics isn't looking into his background... it's pushing a narrative
based on unsubstantiated rumors.
Jonathan Swan, one of the reporters who broke the news of allegations against Dr. Jackson, was animated this evening over the way he believes some are being irresponsible with the story. Despite having the specifics in front of him, he expressly avoided mentioning them in his piece because he had nothing with which to verify the claims.
That hasn't stopped Tester from making media appearances, and recounting those unverified allegations (even when there is reason to doubt their veracity), and it hasn't stopped others from using the charges to affect a political end (attacking Jackson's nomination). Worse still, Tester left room for speculation on some of the rumors to far worse ends than seems justified (that Jackson was handing out opioids recklessly).
How would you feel if anonymous sources about wahoo138 being an abusive alcoholic, who distributes painkillers hit the national media?
He may not be qualified to lead a massive bureaucracy. The honorable thing for those who believe he is not deserving of the position would be to make a case against him on those grounds. If there are personal character issues that come up, investigate them before spouting off.
