If you believe abortions are murder - no differenting than killing a 3 mont

month old baby, then how can the fact that some people might still do it be a reason not to prohibit it? That some people still will kill their own baby in some horrific way doesn't mean that we should make that legal - so, if abortion is essentially the same, then that some still do it shouldn't make it legal.

If you think it is just a medical procedure, no different removing a mole, then of course you would think it wrongheaded to make it illegal if there is any reasonable danger that a person might try it DIY and injure themselves much worse.

You also have to acknowledge that if it is illegal, some non-negligible percentage of people who might get an abortion would not do it themselves and would instead have the baby. What is legal or illegal under our laws has a pretty significant impact on people's opinions on what is right and wrong. Imagine if weed had been legal essentially forever, but alcohol had not. The vast people don't think there is anything inherently wrong about drinking - they might or might not themselves - but most don't think it is morally wrong. Weed, on the other hand, there is a significant portion of the population who think it is simply wrong to smoke / consume - in large part because it has been against the law.

Our laws not only effect behavior but what we believe behavior should be, what is good behavior and what is bad behavior. If abortion was illegal, or illegal in all but a very exceptional circumstances, and had been illegal forever then many more people would think it simply morally wrong and would not consider it, or would chose against it, for that reason.
