I actually heard a guest on NPR yesterday
Pretty much make the same argument you are here and below. I don’t exactly remember all of his qualifications so take it fwiw but guy was apparently part of a group at the state department or dod that would put together psychological profiles on foreign leaders under previous administrations. His main point was that Kim seemed to pretty sane and calculating in his actions. He was speculating that the summit coming to fruition was a combination of nk’s belief that they have increased leverage now that they have nuclear capabilities and that all of the countries involved have relatively new leaders who weren’t tied to past policies. He seemed as optimistic as anyone I’ve heard in regards to the future of relations with NK.
