Not saying that isn’t a factor but I think of

HT as a slightly higher class grocery store than Kroger. I’d view Kroger’s traditional competition as food lion and Winn Dixie type stores where HT would like to think it competes with Publix and Wegman’s with Whole Foods being another notch up. With lidl, aldi, and Walmart dominating the low end market I think they see their nitch at a little higher price point.
