his nomination may have failed, but he deserved the consideration.

Unfortunately, the Supreme Court hasn't felt very apolitical on the contentious issues, so the picks become all the more important to parties.

Don't forget, however, Reid killed the filibuster on judges which republicans then used to justify their use of it w/ Gorsuch. Not that Gorsuch was some radical who deserved the opposition either.


Worse for dems is that this is the lifeline republicans needed for elections later this year. This becomes a wedge issue, and vulnerable democrats (in red states) now face a lose lose proposition. They'll have to go with Trumps pick, or oppose it, and in doing so they anger one group they need (moderate republicans or their liberal base).
