Since the 13th century, so your knowledge is lagging only 800 years
Most crimes require not just an act but a mental state of intent. But it is not intent to commit a crime in some general sense. It is intent to commit some act that is a component of the crime. Someone who beats the crap out of someone likely didn't do so with the intent of committing a crime, but he did intend to throw punches and strike someone.
Trump intended to direct his lawyer, subordinates and himself to lie about paying off porn stars to hide his conduct to further his chances of being elected, and he did so with money given for that purpose by his lawyer. Whether Trump is as ignorant about the law as you are is not relevant; he intended to take the acts the constitute the elements of the crime.
Your demonstrable ignorance goes a long way to explain why about 25% of the country voted for Trump and continues to support him. You are too poorly educated to think critically or arrive at an informed opinion. And when I say educated, I don't mean formal education. There are plenty of folks who are self-taught. There is no reason you couldn't learn the basics short of laziness or disinterest.
