To this point the finger has in the case of most Republicans been pointed


at "the deep state". There was always the allegation that the majority of intelligence officers in the US were untarnished patriots, and a small group of illuminati were undermining them. Sen. Johnson's interview represents a wholesale abandonment of that narrative, and reveals that untruthful and cynical nature of that argument all together. Trump and allies are no longer trying to convince his base that he is being undermined by a small group of bad guys, they are now trying to convince his base that everyone who is not us is the enemy.
