This happened on a smaller scale this past Saturday in Mooresville NC.
Thankfully without the impromptu militia venturing out. Two separate protests were planned in coordination with town police who would actually escort both protests (one a motorcade and the other subsequently on foot). Both received permits and publicized their designated times and routes.
Leading up to the day, I started seeing posts on Nextdoor that people had heard from “reliable sources” that the permitted protests were being used to draw police away from the real objective which was Antifa being bussed in to riot and loot homes in an area called “The Point” because it’s also the location of a golf course and country club owned by Trump.
I’d say Iredell county is 2 to 1 in favor of the GOP and that ratio is probably even higher in the area between downtown Mooresville and The Point. Lots of posts from homeowners in that area about how they were armed to the teeth and any rioters that show up would be making a fatal mistake.
Obviously, everyone has a right to defend their homes from a clear threat to their family, their property or themselves. But, what got me concerned was that there were so many people with guns that were clearly on edge. Questions were raised about when it would be considered reasonable in the eyes of the law to use deadly force (if you own a gun, shouldn’t you know?). My concern wasn’t that Antifa would actually show up but rather that an armed homeowner whose blood is up might just blow someone away for approaching their front door.
Nothing happened. But, I did see some similar comments like what was in this article. That Antifa likely surmised how many homeowners in their targeted area were armed and anxious to take them on and they wisely turned back like the cowards they are. Had to be that, because there’s no way their “reliable sources” could have been full of shit to begin with.
Share any link to stories that attempt to de-bunk what they’ve convinced themselves is true gets called “fake news.” They don’t see they’re being played. At least the armed people around here stayed home as that was what was perceived as under threat. Having a bunch of armed people standing directly across the street from a BLM protest is inherently dangerous IMHO and is likely exactly what the originators of the info were trying to do. Thankfully, in the Oregon story linked in the article they didn’t get the spark to ignite the powder keg. [Post edited by CT Wahoo at 06/08/2020 10:31AM]
