While I do believe we can learn much from other countries
Such as how some countries have successfully established prisons systems that are both safe for inmates and have proven to rehabilitate them, surveys like this need to be taken with a huge grain of salt. The winner on this list is vastly different in almost every aspect than the United States. Iceland's population is about the same as Loudoun County, VA, 89% of its residents are Icelandic, and its smaller in size than the State of NY. Even though Iceland was a founding member of NATO, it joined on the condition that it did not have to have a standing military. Although Iceland has a military today, its investment in that military is tiny, accounting for only .26% of their GDP. Our military is our country's third largest expenditure. And its because of our huge investment and military reach all over the world that many other nations are afforded the ability to invest so little in theirs. Also, Iceland's economy completely collapsed just 12 years ago. Their market literally lost 90% of its value, most businesses declared bankruptcy, and they were forced to nationalize their banking system. [Post edited by Yosemite Sam at 07/29/2020 4:50PM]
