There's also a common thread among Trumpers that's a little more subtle but

less cartoonish and stereotypical. Essentially, Trump's support is strongest among those who think of "America" as being a country for certain monolithic demographic, the same way parts of European and Asian countries view their nations. In this case, it's people who look, think, and act like the folks from *name your small town* and go to a Christian church, speak English, love the military, own guns, etc. and don't accept all this "other" stuff from those cities full of interlopers. They're of course willing to just dismiss the checkered history of racism and discrimination, the way the country used to be *rigged* for people like themselves (because they want that advantage back) at the expense of everyone else, and the fact that things change and the country is simply different now than it was then, and that's a good thing.

It's a type of nationalism that is coupled with a fear of losing out in a real democracy where everyone has an equal say. Trumpers feel like the USA is *their* country ad *their* country is being stolen by immigrants, libbruls, feminists, entitled blacks who don't know how good they really have it, and all these whiny millennials sipping lattes in their skinny jeans who just don't get it, and of course the "globalists" (a bit of code there) who have sold all their hard working, hard-hat and lunchpail jobs to JEYENUH (nevermind that it's more the fact that a machine can simply do those jobs better than they ever could and don't get sick, lazy, drunk, entitled, or need heatlhcare, retirement plans, and vacation days).

I think at the end of the day Trumpers are willing to trade all of the democratic values that this country was founded upon for a sense that *they* are back in charge of *their* country and have the advantages they believe their grandparents had restored. They are fine having a king so long as he is their king, and terrified of living in a democracy where they are the minority.

Not all nefarious and evil. Honestly, many minority groups have voted as a monolith for similar reasons, albeit legitimate mistreatment and discrimination, not just perceived victimhood so they don't have to admit that all that "American exceptionalism" they grew up believing in was just an illusion, and there is really nothing "exceptional" at all about them.
