The whole idea turns on one of the 'Pubs wanting to be majority leader
and not giving a damn about being primaried.
Romney can't be challenged in Utah. Murkowsky has already been primaried once, lost and said eff-U to the party and won as an independent. Collins is a non-starter; she is happy as a clam with the status quo.
By and large I don't see it happening, simply because the rank and file senators like Mitch. He has delivered for the party and while they have the power to cross him, they don't have the desire to do his job.
The more ambitious Republicans who would be happy to shiv Mitch to advance their own careers are not going to get the Democratic support that is required to pull this maneuver off. Ted Cruz for example would sell his own other to shiv Mitch and be Majority leader but the Dems hate him more than they hate Mitch.
