Here in Florida, we also didn't have in-person schooling in the spring of the 2019-2020 school year. I will however agree with you that the resumption of in-person schooling has been unnecessarily delayed in many other parts of the country, particularly for elementary aged children. I can understand the caution in regard to high school aged children, who show a greater propensity for contracting and spreading Covid-19. Additionally, resumption of traditional schooling, particularly high school, carries with it the resumption of extracurricular activities, which engender large crowds of adults in relatively small spaces. For those reasons, caution was, and still is necessary. However, I think it can be successfully argued that Florida and other states that reopened schools in August/Sept for the 2020-2021 school year have provided sufficient evidence that school attendance is not a high risk of transmission. If anything, those places where schools have remained closed/partially closed to in-person classes should be chided for not observing that data sooner. But let's remember, the decision in Florida and many other southern states to reopen schools to in-person classes in August/Sept wasn't based on science either. Those were also decisions that put the health of millions of young people at risk in favor of political motives without solid evidence, that just happened to not blow up in several governor's faces.
