eventually did and tested positive last week. She didn't feel great, but is generally doing fine after a couple of crappy days. Her husband never did get vaccinated. He tested positive a couple of days after her and I was told last night they are touch and go in terms of having to take him to the hospital with breathing issues and he has never felt this sick with anything in his life (his words).

To the jpm's of the world -- she is overweight (although not obese) and he is a little overweight but less than her. He doesn't have any other major risk factors --- not sure if in 40's or 50's.

I really don't love anecdotal stories as one can find them for just about anything and they are completely unnecessary in this case. The data is extremely obvious about serious risk and further complications comparing vaccinated vs. unvaccinated. I also think Omicron is inherently less harmful overall and will ultimately go through areas more quickly than prior variants. Nobody will ever really be able to say truly how much more mild it may be because we do have meaningful percentage of vaccinated people all over the world as well as those who have some natural protection -- so it is simply impossible to know the exact bottom line. But that should be irrelevant based on what we DO know up to this point related to vaccine efficacy and hospitalizations/outcomes across different comparisons -- it remains the most amazing thing just how some continue to feel about getting vaccinated at all and not understanding the risk to both themselves and the effect this is having in other ways on the system. And yes, the husband has apologized profusely to his wife and kids about not getting vaccinated.
