You’re not establishing causation. You’re making an assumption.
And it’s a flimsy assumption, which is why it’s not convincing anyone.
Reality is we already looked weak, incompetent, and unreliable because of Afghanistan and a host of other foreign policy blunders since 9/11. Fact is we were LOSING in Afghanistan and had been for a decade. This outcome was only a matter of time unless we went back to war with the Taliban, which the American public, on a bipartisan basis, had no interest in. Credit to Trump for doing what Obama wouldn’t do and making a real commitment to leave. But Trump also deserves blame for a deeply flawed deal that sold out our Afghan partners and thumbed our nose at our NATO allies, and then doing JACK SHIT for the rest of his presidency to prepare for the end game. Hell, he bragged about boxing in Biden.
And I can keep going. Invading Iraq? Gitmo? Failing to close Gitmo after promising to do exactly that? Tearing up a deal with Iran that was actually working, while alienating our closest allies in the process? Kissing Putin’s ass and talking shit about NATO? Turning a blind eye to China turning the screws on Hong Kong?
See what I mean? Plenty of blame to go around.
