I see where you're coming from, but another possibility is that Trump didn't necessarily want to put all of his employees out of a job by divesting away all of his assets years in advance (no telling how the commercial real estate market would react to this) and effectively ending the Trump organization. It requires you to view him with a shred of humanity, which I can understand is very hard for ardent anti-Trumpies. I don't think he is an evil mastermind who had the bright idea of becoming president in order to increase his family's net worth; rather I think he is an egomaniac who was intrigued by becoming the most powerful person on the planet for the sake of having that title and is now completely in over his head. I think that is a fair assessment of him, having SOME sense of decency to those who have been loyal to him, which he's already kind of displayed with his cabinet picks, but also being a dimwit who could cause more harm than good to himself. Hell, his own policies could drastically harm his industry and catapult us into another recession, which will undoubtedly affect his real estate value.
