I assume a hip replacement for a 5' 10 man who smokes and weighs 300 lbs


would be one such case? He would likely come to surgery with an O2 saturation of 95% at best making him a poor surgical risk. The surgeon would have to cut through inches of fat, and then have to close that after the implant. Then, the patient has to be gotten out of bed soon after the surgery with modern protocols. It will likely take extra aides to assist with that process every time it happens, and it's likely, if not certain, to be longer than for a person who weighs 180 or so.
