sick and to help ensure that our fellow humans have reasonable access to heath care - just like reasonable access to food, shelter etc. Each of us should be looking out for our fellow human, caring for them, sacrificing ourselves and out of what we have to give to others.

But just because it is morally right does not mean that the government should coerce and force any one person to do what is morally right. We all should do it, but we also should have the liberty to make a choice which we morally shouldn't.

We are also talking about health insurance not health care. You are not suggesting, I don't think believe, that we should require people to consume health care, actually force people to go out and use health care - you are saying that we should force people to buy insurance. In fact, someone might not want to buy insurance by may well consume and even pay for health care - but they don't get credit for doing that under this system. It is only the buying of the insurance that matters - actual health care is different. While the two relate to each other, it is quite frustrating that we seem to conflate the two in this discussion so often.
