A thought provoking post like this needs more plus 1's. More


I certainly agree with those who say the kid in question could have fired that shotgun and gotten off completely not guilty given the circumstances. And I can certainly sympathize with the rage and powerlessness he felt.

But I'd also say that the bullies in this case did seem to be 'talking a good game'. They had plenty of chances to ACTUALLY beat the heck out of the kid, getting off the bus at his stop, following him home....but didn't. So even though they seemed to be a threat to his physical safety, were they really?

To answer your question, I'd ultimately say it's anti gun, because the gun wasn't actually used. In fact, it wasn't even used as a threat that would/could get those bullies to say "oh shit...run...and never mess with this kid again!!"

And with that said, if the story went that the kid DID shoot through the door, killing one and injuring several, I'd fully support his action in doing so, so yes it can be a very 'see both sides' situation.
