I agree it's not double taxation, it's two different bites from the only
apple. Like you, I'm a flat tax guy so I'm in favor of seeing just about all deductions gone, even though I realize a true flat tax will never happen in our progressive taxation society. So I'll happily take a three tiered flat tax, or as close to that as we can get.
But the whole red states are "takers" justification is a bit of garbage IMO and rather disingenuous coming from the left as it does. Aside from the ignoring of facts that states like VA have massive military and govco agencies in NOVA which heavily skew them to the "taker" side but have nothing to do with taking but rather locating, or that Sens like Robert Byrd used their power to use the Fed coffers to essentially fund jobs programs by locating services to their states, you don't get a discount on your Fed taxes in those low SALT states vs someone making the same income in another state. More importantly, it's the only time you see the left railing against redistribution of wealth and more progressivity in our tax code (when looking at the net impact). Gee, you think that might have anything to do with the fact that it stops a loophole that most benefited them and their power base in the high SALT states? (no need to get into whether that's hypocrisy or not)
