In the end it doesn't matter. Cost is what matters. Whether that funding


comes from the Fed level via higher Fed taxes or State level via higher state taxes doesn't affect the cost.

So for the sake of this point, the question is cost of armed guards, metal detectors, etc. vs cost of buybacks, enforcement and incarceration involved with a ban. And no, I'm not suggesting armed guards is all we would need, nor that cost should be the only consideration.

I do think armed guards in (some if not all) schools is a cost effective way to minimize and/or mitigate the damage from these types of events, be they a nut job looking to gain infamy or a disgruntled spouse looking for revenge, and one that could be effective immediately. I don't understand the fear/concern of kids having to walk by that armed guard, as I would hope those folks wouldn't have the same fears when their kids walk by a cop on the street, at a stadium, an airport, etc.
