Also nothing
The Democrats don't appear to have a plan.
The sane part of the GOP don't appear to have a plan.
Trumpletons claim to have a plan, which appears to primarily involve blaming the Mexicans and instituting tariffs. Let's concede the possibility of some short term gains. why not? There are undoubtedly jobs that are currently occupied by illegals, and the diffuse pain of higher steel prices is harder to quantify than the PR wins of some new steel worker jobs. Fine. But that's a band aid at best, and sure as hell not a solution.
The automation revolution is of a type heretofore unheard of in societal evolution. It isn't a changing of jobs from the farms to the factories. It isn't the changing of jobs from the factories to the information economy or service industries. It's going to be the abolition of jobs. Period. It's going to start with the blue collar folks who do relatively predictable and programmable work, and work it's way higher and higher as AI improves. "New jobs will take their place" is wishful thinking.
