The man lies on a daily basis. Sometimes admitting it and then continuing the lie.
Not likely that a sudden change to the president's legal team addressing an investigation into election meddling by a foreign power suddenly materialized on March 19, but was not known on March 11. If you've been involved in complex legal situations, and this is about as complex as it gets, that's not how it generally works.
The crazy leap would be to assume Trump was telling the truth on March 11, and miraculously a week later the NYT assertions came true. Much, much more likely that the NYT discovered and then verified the intention, given the short time frame between story and the new hire.
But you go ahead and assume that the more likely scenario is the NYT was wrong, and then suddenly 8 days later it wasn't. The inventor of "alternative facts" is the one being truthful here. Whatever gets you through the day. .
