& Santee Cooper power. I don't if you guys in Virginia know about the debacle that's been going on down here. SCANA the parent company of South Carolina Electric & Gas, Santee Cooper (local power provide) decided in 2007 (I think) to build 2 Nuclear Reactors in the upper part of the state. They were being built by Westinghouse (a new nuclear design they promised). Anyhow, after many years of budget over runs, bad designs, what have you, Westinghouse declared bankruptcy, Toshiba (parent company of Westinghouse) is no where to be found. South Carolina Electric and Gas and Santee Cooper went to the legislature and said me culpa, we must pull the plug now on the not even half way completed Reactors, after spending $9B!! Oh and by the way, unbeknownst to the GEN PUB they went to the legislature in 2007 and lobbied (and won) a Base Load Review Act) that stated that South Carolina Electric and Gas, and Santee Cooper would from then on charge the Customers with building them. So every month your bill was increased $37.00 in order to pay for the construction. So, after $ billions they pull the plug, and get this, SAY oh you still have to pay for the reactors because if you don't we'll go bankrupt. !! All the gall, its a FUCKING SHIT SHOW. The legislature is knee deep in this shit and the State Law Enforcement division & gulp the FBI has been investigating since last year. Numerous CEO's of SCANA, SCE&G & Santee Cooper have 'retired' etc.. Numerous documents have been dug up where up to 5 or 6 yrs ago the execs knew the project would never yield a single watt of electricity but still bilked the customers. I don't know where this is going but the people are mad, the legislature is threatening withholding all payments. BUt you wont believe this but SCE&G and SCANA & Santee Cooper say if you do that we'll go bankrupt!
