I think the thought though is that as the industrial revolution took hold,


there was probably a lot of worry about how it would destroy farm jobs, which represented 80% of employment (or something like that). But that turned out to be wrong due to a big increase in productivity and standard of living.

So some are theorizing that, yes, automation will eliminate a lot of jobs....but maybe some new industry, or higher level type of jobs that we can't yet truly envision, take their place.

I have to admit I'm having a tough time envisioning it too. All driver and warehouse jobs could eventually be automated. You can certainly eventually make a McDonald's with 0 to 1 employees if you really went all out on automation. Even at the higher end, it's already been proven that AI systems generally are better at diagnosis than a human doctor. Eventually robots will be programmed for surgical procedures.

So yes, I'm seeing automation as a big threat to a LOT of jobs....but society has faced this fear before, and it's usually found some (not widely expected) answer.
