My Paternal Grandpa was an Illegal Alien
Walked across the Canadian Border one night, caught a train in Malone, NY to the big city. Married Grandma, went back to Canada, filled out the paperwork, got a background check from the RCMP and immigrated legally, took six months. Worked 5 years without a single day off in the NYC subways.
His Wife, went through ellis Island from Ireland, no one came to claim her, so she got an employee at Ellis Island to contact someone for her, another 24 hours and she would have been shipped back.
My Mom came to America from Ireland, went to London to take classes as a Hospital technician, and came to America with 30 dollars in her pocket. Took my mom 10 years to become a citizen, I remember the day well. After that she voted in every single election.
They all worked hard, raised families, and were proud to be American.
I'm proud to be the child of legal immigrants. I'm not a fan of blanket Amnesty and allowing people to come in and immediately getting benefits and becoming a financial drain on society.
In the past, you would swear you would not become a burden to society if you immigrated here, those rules no longer apply.
