folks that couldn't or didn't pass the background check, and then were discharged. And then some that didn't agree with Obama expanding the program to include DACA kids and wanting it to go back to what it was when designed. What I'm not sure is why they were ever started in the military, even one day of boot camp, without having first completed the background check (sounds like they allowed it due to backlog on a provisional acceptance).

But regardless, like you said, if that was the deal, no matter hoo made the deal, and they did their part, including passing the background check as applicable, that deal should be honored. And I would go further and say they shouldn't be punished if it fell through (e.g. didn't pass because cousin back home is a security concern). The article wasn't clear on that, because they weren't sure on the type of discharge. Even being willing to sign up to serve says a lot to me, and shouldn't be discounted for something preventing that outside of their control.
