Hey, we love the Chinese, but despise the Russians
We been eating Chinese food forever, and very little Russian food because it sucks.
I was around when Nixon initiated normalizing relations with China. There were some fears, but the politics was about the USA selling goods to billions of Chinese. IMHO, America was okay with normalization then because they thought China would eventually get rid of communism and move to more of a democracy.
To me, Hong Kong was a sign the movement was not going as fast as one thought. Taiwan is another. Now, the Chinese dear leader has extended his power. We are 45+ years since Nixon.
By the way, it is my understanding Asian culture as a whole did not believe in IP as a culture. I thought it took decades through the WTO to resolve that for most of the countries. If memory serves me correct, Japan at one time was really bad about IP with the car industry. I hope someone else chimes in if I am right or wrong about the above.
