You are referring to Trump calling the EU our foes in trade, right?

Assuming that, I'll play devil's advocate to an extent - Trump doesn't just see the EU as our foes in that sense, he sees everybody that way. Trade is a zero sum game in Trump's mind. I completely disagree with that mindset, but this statement about the EU is really nothing new.

Those of us who see trading counterparties as "partners" instead of "foes" can only hope for silver linings. The US is the elephant in the room for the entire world - it really can't ignore us, so they may see appeasement of Trump as a necessary evil until the American voting public comes to its senses, hopefully beginning in the November (although on a personal note, can the dems please try to steer clear of their own populism, which could be in lock step with trumpism on trade?).
