It's funny, how people construct belief systems around what they've already decided was objective emotional truth.

She explains it so clearly. How the one quote has affected her on a visceral level. How it stands out above everything else as the one thing that convinced her of the truth of it all. It's conveniently a piece of the story that is absolutely unprovable one way or another.

Then there's the things that she acknowledges as true but irrelevant (Rolling Stone's failure). The holes in Jackie's story that she convolutes an alternative explanation for because it supports her belief. The holes in Jackie's story that don't matter because the story is true in a somehow larger sense. The holes in Jackie's story that are identifiably wrong facts, but since rape culture is so quick to use them as vindication that this is somehow evidence of that larger truth.

And, of course, the evils of male dominated culture at large that mean even if this particular sorry is untrue, there are so many more that are, that we shouldn't just write off Jackie.

She just KNOWS, and no amount of evidence the other way is going to convince her. It's like so much fake news.
