Charlottesville was a great example of a town-school coexisting, maybe more than that kind of synergystically benefitting from one another, not too too dominated by either like you see in other "college" towns. Was aware of some town-gown strains, but it's worse other places, least I thought, which was likely too naive by half. But realistically, C'ville and UVa can and should feed off each other in mostly positive ways.

This is where the "TJ was the ideal" vs. "TJ was a white supremacist rapist" stuff becomes relevant. Neither of those is wholly true. History, liberal arts, is important in that way imo. In the past things were sanitized, now things trend toward the opposite of that. A lot of people don't think that stuff matters, I do. Look at the mayor's language for example- she may not have gone to UVa but she sounds like she very well could have come out of a bunk discipline at an "elite" college w/ some of it.
