Maybe it would be a difficult lawsuit, or limitations make it harder, but you still can't simply demote someone and destroy his career with no valid reason. I can't imagine a Fed Judge would let that go unnoticed.

With that said, I agree with your post below, that it could be for the affair, misuse of Gov't equipment, etc., or at least that gives them an out to defend the action. But that too, like this politically motivated, is just speculation. I can't imagine he's the first FBI guy to have an affair and misuse his phone doing so. And Wray hasn't struck me as someone that so easily bends for political motivation.
