Mildly entertaining rant based on a shallow and misguided view of society.
I like how he tacitly admitted he was completely wrong about Dumbo at the end. The original movie contained horribly racist caricatures of black people as well as the child elephant character, Dumbo, having an alcohol induced hallucination. Why is it odd to mention in a review of the new version that these elements were omitted?
It seems funny to yell about the stupidity of "Little house on the Prairie" being offensive, but her writing did portray Native Americans and black people negatively based on mainstream cultural attitudes of her era. Whats the surprise? The guy in the video admits this, so the organization changed the name to the Children’s Literature Legacy Award. The only people making a big deal about this are guys like this who want attention.
He is also completely wrong about the statement attributed to Vogue about tackling women issues today being harder than the battle for the vote. It is harder. The same argument could be made for civil rights. What is more difficult, getting a legislative body to enact a law or changing the generations old cultural beliefs of an entire population toward a marginalized group? It might sound silly at first but when you actually think about it instead of whining on youtube, the latter task is far more difficult.
Just because your grandmother was in WWII doesn't mean there aren't struggles to be had in the present day. You could belittle anything when comparing it to being in the Battle of Britain.
