Bush losing was as much a result of the revolution


that led to the '94 wave and the Gingrich era as anything else. The undercurrents were already raging in '92. Bush had a 91% approval rating a year and half earlier. I look at that number in the same sort of awe I do when I periodically peak back at Greg Maddux stats. 91% approval.

But then he cut taxes when he said he wouldn't. He reached across the aisle to get a budget done for the good of the country, despite his own party's resistance in Congress. That lit a fire under a large portion of the Republican partyled to Perot challenging him on the right and this dynamic landed Clinton in the White House. Two years later that same spirit ushered in the era of slash and burn Republicanism later taking roots as the Tea Partyand eventually Trumpism.
