Our visa policy has been disastrous

Started by W after 911, continued by a misguided Obama administration. We have basically invited other markets to catch up and decided we'd rather see the world's top talent stay at home or go to Canada.

No immigration discussion is complete without addressing this issue. I'm not sure we can ever get back to where we were, though. We want the best people here, we should be actively courting technologists, innovators, entrepreneurs- it is the American way. In the end, talent tends to win, our policy-makers are choosing to lose. We have pretty much *always* been the destination of choice and can be again (though we've really managed to turn a lot of people off over the last couple of years). We need to be smart- many, many more H1-B visas.
