and we are, then for those in positions of public trust, such as the president, the existence of the conflict is all that matters. In some cases, the existence of the conflict alone can be a crime or a violation of rules governing a given activity. At a minimum, it should be a required disclosure. So If Donald Trump is ultimately enriched by the hotel arrangements of diplomats with whom he's negotiating on the country's behalf, that's a problem whether or not it can be shown that Trump was influenced by such gains.

I'm not sure I saw anybody in this thread bring up impeachment - except for all the Trumpies who are more obsessed with it than anyone. All the top post said was "nothing to see here". There is something to see here - even if Trumpies are so completely under the thrall of the personality cult of Trump that they'll ridicule a conflict like this, which would be making them scream "lock her up!" or "fleecing of America" if it were Hillary or Bill (or just about anybody not named Trump), the voters should know about it. Just like the voters are entitled to the same transparency with his tax returns as has been provided by every other president in the last half century.

The November vote gives us reason to hope that there is still some understanding of basic American civics that could result in an end to this orange nationalist nightmare in 2020. The more Trump shenanigans like this that can be brought into the sunlight, the better.
