From what I've read they are actually more angry about Macron's tax

policies than anything else. They want to reinstate a 1.5% surcharge on the uber-wealthy that Macron's government reduced to 0.5% and they feel that the tax increases on fuel are impacting urban areas less than rural ones. Inequality and fairness seem to be visceral issues in France. The government better start listening.
