hashed out everywhere. Thousands of books, I'm sure, have been written arguing one case or the other. Bottom line I think FDR prolonged the depression ... you probably don't. Reasonable people can make either case.

Either way ... that's not even the point I was making: FDR was free to advocate for Congress to pass the laws he wanted and then sign them. If he's unable to convince Congress, the nature of checks and balances is he CANNOT just go around them and legislate on his own. Advocating that the ends justified the means doesn't mean I'm wrong about the underlying point. (and I'd argue they did not in any case)
