Pretty sure he’s joking about it. We’ve now had a shirt pulled off the
Store shelves & a pair of shoes because of peoples sensitivity to black face. A sensitivity that started as outrage but quickly vanished, once it meant putting a Republican in the governors house, making the whole Democratic Party look like hypocrites.
I watched a periscope yesterday about a Memorial in CA for Al Jolson. He was a Comedian/singer/actor who used blackface frequently in his act. I found it interesting that the scope was being broadcast by a black man who harbored no disrespect for Al Jolson and was proud to point out that the architect who designed Al Jolson’s entire memorial was also a black man. While this black broadcaster acknowledged that blackface is wrong I couldn’t help but feel that when we lived in a less PC world, people recognized that things can have multiple meanings and blackface wasn’t always meant to be hurtful. However, in today’s PC world, where people jump at the chance to play victim, it’s absolutely not tolerated except when it’s to their benefit to ignore. Like in the State Capital of Virginia where the next in line is a Republican. Hmm? Not only are they willing to overlook the blackface it appears they may be willing to overlook sexual assault charges because of the optics of allowing the 2 white men to remain in office but force the black man to step down. Even though I don’t think anyone would say that sexual assault is not a legitimate reason to kick a man out of office, if he’s found guilty.
I’ll be glad when or I should say if we can all go back to getting along. When it’s more about the issues & less about race, gender, sexual persuasion, or political party.
Given that the world is slowly becoming more educated to our past screw ups, leading to wars throughout history I’m still hopeful that one day we’ll figure out that war is bad and peace is good.
