and the Internet in general if fights break out, and then all we see is back and forth recriminations over who started it.

Nobody is walking into this area with shields and pepper spray and clubs and all the stuff you saw in Cville. Security is going to be tight. If half the world can stand all day in the middle of Times Square in the freezing cold with no refreshment or bathroom breaks, just to watch a stupid ball drop at the breakneck speed of a sloth climbing down a tree, they really should be able to keep a lid on any nonsense at this stupid Trump photo op on Thursday.
