That's not the right message. 2016 was mostly about attacking Trump. 2018

Was more about issues, particularly in districts that flipped the house. Many dem candidates tried not to mention Trump. If they were attacking, it was indirectly by talking about things like HC. And the message was more like Biden's: preserve and improve Ocare. Now many candidates want to scrap it. Attacking works great in the Bronx and Queens, but less so in swing districts. Attacking wasn't really the key to getting more of the educated female suburban vote in '18 than in '16, for example.

There is definitely a risk that the party will trip over each other moving so far left in the primaries that they will cede the center to Trump in the general. On messaging - repubs will of course try to spin their positions as being radically left. The dem who can win the general will combat that without alienating too much of the progressive vote to win the primaries. If that's possible. I don't think we know yet.
