You don't typically just take the hostage's word for it

For say Zelensky to say otherwise gains him nothing, and at this point probably brings down a presidency. There's zero chance he's going to do that.

I'm fairly certain you guys understand this, and that it's a safe bet Zelensky's story will never change so I don't blame you for using it. But it's also just another example of what has become a culture of bad faith arguments on the right.
