He and his most vocal defenders are fundamentally untrustworthy, and their "excuses" for Trump's behavior are outright insulting to the intelligence of American voters. There is not a person of voting age in this country that actually believes Trump gives a shit about corruption in Ukraine beyond the 2 investigations he specifically requested be explicitly stated in an announcement from Ukraine. Not one.

Republicans would do so much better to acknowledge the facts as they are an argue for barring impeachment under the auspices of not overturning an election. If they had the stones to simply say, "Trump was wrong and unethical, but we don't believe that it merits removal from office", they would easily carry the day, and perhaps get out from under Trump's thumb. But peddling the WH talking points everyone knows are bullshit only prompts people to ask what else the WH is hiding.

But at this point, every single one of them have backed off those statements. Cowards.
