I don't get your angry response at all. This is a legit question. I'm no
Trumpie, and I think Trump uses immigration and images of invading caravans as scapegoats for his fear mongering and demagoguery, but there are genuine, legit questions around sanctuary cities. Should states and cities be able to override fed immigration policy? Can a sanctuary city be sued if it refuses to cooperate with the Feds, and a subject commits a violent crime? Can we ever get to a rational place with the govt at different levels working at cross purposes? I think of myself as an immigration dove, although I believe in enforcing laws - would dems be ok if a dem pres loosened immigration policy and states or cities took it upon themselves to round up immigrants to whom a more permissive admin granted access?
I think this board has gone into free fall. Entire threads collapse into 10 yr old level ad hominem wars at the drop of a hat. I don't mean to single you out, but it struck me that an OP that attacked nobody and simply laid out an issue for discussion attracted an immediate "fuck you". It is a reflection of our political state I suppose. If we get just a wiff of an opinion we don't like, bang, we kneejerk straight to hate.
Civil war in the US seems unimaginable, but then so did the '08 financial collapse before it happened. Just my opinion, but I think we have to learn to take a breath in the middle of these discussions.
