from unionized labor. Just under 11% of workers overall are in unions (about 37% of public sector workers and only 6% of private sector workers), 29th out of 36 OEDC countries. You can bet that most of those countries have some form of universal healthcare. We've been falling for years. Almost 35% of workers were unionized in 1954, 20% in 1983. Meanwhile, not coincidentally, the middle class has both shrunk and lost buying power relative to the upper income levels.

I don't know the details of the Culinary Workers healthcare plan in Nevada. I'm sure they worked hard to get them in the first place and I would bet that in that state they have enormous leverage. They're fortunate and I'm sure they want to keep their benefits. However, labor unions have traditionally defended workers' rights generally and IMO they will generally support insurance reforms because that is a huge expense for anyone without a union or employer sponsored plan. Even a lot of those require contributions and out of pocket expenses that will strain most middle class families.

Is that a wedge issue in Nevada? I suppose we'll see soon. Is it elsewhere in the US? I don't think so. Healthcare reform is #1 for a lot of voters, particularly as the imperfect protections of the ACA are whittled away, even if many of them don't support Medicare for All.
