I would take it a step further: This kind of thing is once again allowing

Trump to dictate the debate terms. How many times have we gone back and forth with "thanks Trump" and "thanks Obama" after Trump takes credit for a good market run, or strong econ numbers? It's bullshit, and yeah, he hangs so much of his own record on stock market and economic performance, with which he has so little to do, that he'll be scrambling if things turn materially south for an extended period.

But if I think he's a clown for taking credit for such things, probably doesn't make a whole lot of sense to spend too much time beating him up over dislocations, which will always happen for one reason or another.

Trump is chaotic and stokes uncertainty which exacerbates volatility, but beyond that, I think we spend far too much time ascribing credit and blame to presidents over such things.
