Because private industry will make as much money as possible


doing it. Private industry is happy to let states get into bidding wars over ventilators. Do you want states to have to pay higher prices than they would have previously? Do you want the products produced to go to the places that need them or places that can afford them? Do you really want the market to figure out the sickest most deserving patients?

If the government forces the procurement at the price that they determine and then distribute them based on need (as opposed to wealth) that would seem a better approach.
