She can actually file as being claimed by someone else. That's what I do

with my daughter's return, and why she's owed some minimal VA taxes, because the std deduction is reduced. And yes, you could do the same with your mom, assuming she qualifies as a dependent.

Yes she does qualify for the child tax credit that way. I'm entitled to do that by decree, but I've let my ex claim her since we split years ago, since she needed the deduction and money more than I did. So yes, I presume these funds would go to her mom as well.

No idea how that works for an elderly dependent, and since I'm not a professional, I would definitely defer to Sithie on that, and for clarifying any misstatements I may have made.
