There are numerous examples of lessons learned and forgotten


by the start of WW II. One of the most egregious was the value of convoying ships. We learned it during WW I, then had a new crop of sea captains by 1942 who rejected it out of hand, resulting in the unnecessary lost of men and materials, until they were finally convinced or ordered to join convoys.
