Sure, if they are committing a crime, or they have a warrant for a past cri

crime. Suppose there was a riot going on. The reporter is there reporting, gets excited and wants to participate. She decides she wants to burn down a building and blow up a few cars - so she does. Sure, arrest that reporter.

But this arrest really has nothing to do with whether they were reporting or not. There was no reason to arrest any person who was doing what the CNN crew was doing. There were standing there talking. The fact that they were reporting live is only the reason they were they, but any person could have been standing there, talking, not harming anyone else. They offered to move anywhere the police wanted them to move.

The arrest was absurd and totally unreasonable. Police thinking they are in charge, they make the rules, they get to do what they want. It also does not matter how fast they released them - it was the arrest itself that was completely inappropriate and all the officers involved should be punished and/or fired and some probably charged with crimes. Anyone else would charged with a crime if they walked up to a few people hanging out in the street talking and handcuffed them, led them away and held them for some period of time.
