Maybe. I'd like to say that they'll roll up their sleeves and get engaged
in all levels of politics, local especially. Here's the problem I see. I think that a lot of millennials of different colors, but especially working class and racial minorities, see the entire system as corrupt. A significant portion will go ahead and vote for Biden, if they vote. I think an even more significant portion believe either a) it won't make a difference since Biden is an establishment Democrat, or b) they will see the efforts to systematically suppress votes as an indicator that the voting system will not be trustworthy. This second aspect is the corollary of the Trump mantra that absentee voting and vote manipulation will result on GOP defeat.
So lovely. You now have wide swaths of the American public who have no faith in the system of voting or of government generally. Add to this the failed pandemic response, the widespread unemployment and desperation, and we now have a very volatile mix. Will demands for a more authoritarian solution follow? They might. As my son, a Bernie Sanders millennial, said to me last evening, "I think we're going to see people in the streets no matter who wins in November."
